The Childhood Edit – The Portraits You’ll Treasure Most 

There is a moment in every parent’s life when they realize their child has changed. Not in a big, obvious way. But quietly.

One day you notice the baby curls are gone. The freckles across their nose have multiplied. The gap-toothed grin has been replaced by grown-up teeth. The tiny hand that once wrapped around yours now reaches confidently into the world on its own.

Childhood doesn’t disappear all at once. It slips away in little pieces. And somehow, those ordinary little pieces become the ones we miss the most.

As a photographer, I’ve spent years watching families grow. I’ve photographed newborns who are now in high school. I’ve watched toddlers become confident big brothers and little girls become teenagers.

One thing I’ve learned is this:

The photographs parents treasure most aren’t always the ones where everyone is smiling perfectly at the camera. They’re the ones that feel like their child. The quiet gaze. The thoughtful expression. The way they tuck their hair behind their ear. The tiny dimple that only appears when they laugh. The confidence. The curiosity. The tenderness. 

Those are the photographs that become family treasures.

That is why I created The Childhood Edit.

Not to create perfect portraits. Not to chase trends (these are not the “personality portraits” on a white background). But to preserve childhood honestly. These sessions are intentionally simple. A timeless black backdrop. Soft, beautiful light. No distracting props. No elaborate sets. Just your child. Exactly as they are in this season.

While I love to document the silly faces and the smiles, my goal is to dig a little deeper with these and create simple portraits of your child with a side of soulful intention.  Timeless.  Refined.  Slowed down.  Art.  But made intentional.

Because one day…

You’ll forget the sound of their little voice. You’ll forget how tiny their fingers looked wrapped around yours. You’ll forget the way they looked at you when they were five. Or seven. Or ten. Not because those moments weren’t important. But because time has a way of gently softening the details. Photographs help us remember. Not just what our children looked like. But who they were.

The Childhood Edit is about slowing down long enough to truly see them. Not asking them to be anything different. Not asking them to smile bigger. Not asking them to perform. Just allowing them space to simply exist. Because that’s where the magic lives.

These are the portraits I hope your children inherit.

Not because they’re perfect. But because they’re honest. Years from now, I hope they look at these photographs and recognize themselves. And I hope you look at them and remember exactly who they were in this fleeting season. Because one day…
