Dear new parents, those first days with your little one are a beautiful whirlwind, aren’t they? As both a mom and your newborn photographer in St. Simons Island, I understand that preparing for a newborn session might feel like one more thing on your overwhelmingly full plate. Let me take that worry off your shoulders and guide you through exactly what you need to bring (and what you don’t!) for your newborn session.
The Beauty of Coming As You Are
First, let me share something that might surprise you – you don’t need to arrive camera-ready! Come in your comfy yoga pants and favorite loose top. The professional hair and makeup artist I work with will transform you into a glowing, well-rested version of yourself while your little one snoozes nearby. While I start photographing your sweet baby, take a moment to relax and be pampered, mama.
Essentials for Baby’s Comfort
Your precious little one needs surprisingly little for their session. Bring along:
- Their favorite pacifier for soothing (if you use one)
- Extra formula for baby (unless you are breastfeeding)
- Any special blanket or lovie you’d like included in photos
Feeding Your Little One
Plan to feed your baby right at the start of our session – this helps them fall into that milk-drunk sleepy state that’s perfect for photos. Remember to bring:
- Whatever you need for feeding (bottle or nursing supplies)
- Any comfort items that help during feeding time
What NOT to Worry About
Here’s the beautiful part – you don’t need to worry about and buy or arrange:
- Outfits for newborn session (I’ve a curated collection of newborn wear)
- Blankets or wraps (I’ve the softest, most photogenic options)
- Hair and makeup supplies (our artists have everything needed)
For Parents
Remember, these photos celebrate your whole family. I provide:
- Access to our studio wardrobe with over 100 dresses in sizes XS-XXL
- Access to our studio wardrobe for both Dads and Siblings as well
- Professional hair and makeup services
- Comfortable seating for tired parents – a few of my parents have even taken cat-naps on our cozy studio sofa!
A Note About Time
Newborn sessions flow at baby’s pace. I never rush through feedings, diaper changes, comfort breaks, and snuggle time.
Keep baby awake for a bit before coming (if possible) and dress them in loose-fitting clothes to avoid marks on their skin. Our warm, cozy studio is designed for your comfort. You’ll find a private nursing area, changing facilities, comfortable seating and everything needed for baby’s comfort and safety.
Remember, this isn’t just another task to check off your new-parent to-do list. It’s a chance to pause, breathe, and document these fleeting early days with your little one. Let us pamper you while I document these precious moments that pass all too quickly.
Your only job is to arrive with your precious bundle. I’ll take care of absolutely everything else, creating a relaxed, comfortable experience that results in beautiful images you’ll treasure forever.
