St. Simons Island Family Session: Timeless Portraits Under the Southern Oaks
As a St. Simons Island family photographer, I’m thrilled to share this beautiful portrait session featuring one of my favorite families posed under the magnificent southern oaks. I have been photographing this family since the oldest was just 1 year old – I feel like we are family, now 🙂 Since we last photographed their family portraits on the beaches of Sea Island, we decided to visit under the beautiful Live Oak trees on St. Simons Island this time. There’s something truly magical about capturing family memories with Spanish moss draping elegantly from ancient branches, creating a natural cathedral that is so symbolic of the south.
The Perfect St. Simons Island Portrait Preparation
Every memorable family portrait session on St. Simons Island begins long before the camera comes out. For this family, preparation started at our studio’s client closet, where mom and the children selected their wardrobe. The soft, neutral palette we chose complemented the natural surroundings beautifully while allowing their personalities to shine through.
On the morning of the session, our makeup artist arrived at mom’s home for some well-deserved pampering. There’s something so special about watching a mother relax and enjoy being taken care of before stepping in front of the camera. That confidence and glow always translates into the final Spanish moss family portraits.

While they no longer share a home, they share an unwavering commitment to raising their three beautiful children together. Our session intentionally captured distinct moments with dad and the kids, followed by special portraits of mom with her children—honoring both of these important relationships under the island’s iconic Spanish moss.
